What to see in Ptuj

The oldest town in Slovenia boasts many interesting spots to discover - starting with Ptuj Castle, which is one of the most beautiful castles in Slovenia with stunning views of the Ptuj Old Town marked by orange rooftops and the Drava River. You can see a lot of beautiful architecture from the Austro-Hungarian era, colorful townhouses, and cute cafés and restaurants in the city center.

What to do in Ptuj

In late February or early March, Ptuj is the main venue for “Kurentovanje” - be sure to follow the mystical Pagan character Kurent roaming the town streets with cow bells around his waist chasing winter away and welcoming spring (a tradition inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO). Art lovers can visit the Ptuj City Gallery or Mihelič Gallery.

Where to go in Ptuj

There are a lot of places to spend your time in Ptuj depending on your interests. You can go to the Ptuj regional museum, Dominican Church and Monastery, Panorama archaeological park, or Ptuj wine cellar (alert, wine lovers!). If you have some time to go for a short trip outside Ptuj, we recommend going to Ptujska Gora and visit its parish church from the 15th century built in a magnificent Gothic style.
